Established in 1975, Chugiak Senior Citizens, Inc. (CSCI) is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization dedicated to supporting seniors aged 55 and older in the Chugiak-Eagle River area. CSCI oversees the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center (CERSC), Chugiak Senior Housing, Inc. (CSHI), and other senior support programs, all managed by an eleven-member volunteer Board of Directors.
Starting in a community building constructed by local pioneers in the 1940s, the senior center quickly expanded to meet the growing needs of the community. The center's initial operations were funded entirely by local donations of cash and food. A 1976 survey highlighted the urgent need for health care access, transportation, and assistance for seniors, especially during the isolating winter months. With support from the Municipality of Anchorage, state grants, and private donations, the center has grown into a 100,000 sq. ft. facility that serves seniors in the Chugiak-Eagle River area and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.
CSCI offers a wide range of programs and services, including senior housing, assisted living, adult day services, a dining facility, Meals-on-Wheels for home-bound seniors and disabled adults, activities, events, room rentals, exercise classes, art classes, and a computer lab for seniors.
