Encouraging community-building within the CERSC campus and programs that serve the wider community.
Supporting independence and quality of life for residents and visitors.
Seeking innovation and creativity in programs and services to seniors.
Upholding high ethical standards, transparency and efficiency in management of the endowment.
Looking at today’s extensive campus known as Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center, you may not realize how far we have come. 2025 marks the 50th anniversary since a group of visionary community leaders established a senior gathering place in a donated building. Using government grants, generous individual gifts, bequests and enthusiastic fundraising the Center is on firm fiscal ground and propelled toward a bright future.
In 1986 the Chugiak Senior Citizens, Inc (CSCI) created a perpetual endowment to eventually augment the grants and fundraising efforts necessary to support the Center. Today the resulting Chugiak Senior Citizens Foundation provides a significant financial contribution to the Center's mission of service to seniors.
Initially donators contributed to a "Million Dollar Club" in reference to the goal of reaching $2million before any distribution was allowed from earnings. Bequests from local pioneer families came in while investments grew in value under prudent management. As a separate 501(c)(3) the Foundation operates independently of CSCI.
Since 2020 yearly distributions from the Foundation of $25,000 or more have supported programs at CERSC. New senior-friendly gym equipment was purchased and health and safety enhancements were installed, as examples. We look forward to seeing more innovative ways to improve the lives of local seniors through our grants.
Today’s Alaskan families benefit from a legacy of bountiful lands, rich culture, sound government and thoughtfully planned infrastructure. Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center is a shining example of this inheritance that we treasure.
The all volunteer Board of Directors of the Foundation has updated the Trust Agreement and Bylaws and reviewed procedures to ensure robust governance and compliance with Alaska State and Federal laws. Our intent is to actively collaborate with Chugiak Senior Citizens, Inc. in its mission to seniors by growing this endowment, clarifying its role and securing its perpetual existence.
A gift to the Chugiak Senior Citizens Foundation demonstrates your enduring commitment to carrying on this legacy.
