Dear Residents and Community Members, We are thrilled to announce the addition of Nurse Denise to the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center team as our highly anticipated Outreach Nurse. She will officially join us on Monday, October 7th, bringing nearly three decades of nursing expertise to our residents and community members. Nurse Denise has been a Registered Nurse for 28 years, with a wealth of experience spanning primary care, dialysis, home health, and hospice. Before her nursing career, she worked as a licensed optician, which is how she met her husband, Col. Ron, an Optometrist. In 1997, they moved to Alaska when Col. Ron began working at JBER. Together, they have two sons, Vaughn and Stephen, who has been with GCI for over 10 years. As an Outreach Nurse, Nurse Denise will provide a variety of essential services, including health screenings, wellness check-ins, chronic disease management, and medication education. She will be a valuable resource for seniors navigating health challenges, offering support, guidance, and preventive care to help maintain independence and improve overall quality of life. In addition to individual care, Nurse Denise will collaborate with our local healthcare providers to connect residents with additional resources, helping ensure seamless transitions between home and healthcare settings. Whether it's managing chronic conditions or providing referrals for specialized care, she will be an advocate for our community’s health. Her office will be conveniently located near the finance department, and we encourage both residents and community members to stop by, introduce yourself, and help make Nurse Denise feel welcome. We believe her presence will greatly enhance the level of care we are able to provide and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our senior population. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Nurse Denise as we continue to strengthen our commitment to the health and well-being of our senior community! Warm regards, Heather Sommerville PR/Fundraising Manager
